Get ready to ride into summer with a fantastic, family-friendly event hosted by the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. The Alberta Bike Swap is coming to campus at the Olympic Oval on Saturday, June 17. If you're looking to sell, donate, or buy a bike, this is the perfect event for you.
"This is a great opportunity to promote healthy, active living in our communities, and we are delighted to partner with the Alberta Bike Swap. As a year-round bike commuter myself, I think this is a great way to bring people together and encourage cycling in Calgary,” says Dr. Nick Holt, dean, Faculty of Kinesiology. “Thank you, Chris and Laura, for creating a student bursary for the students of the Faculty of Kinesiology.”
To complement the event, the SHRed mobile will be on site — this is an RV that travels from event to event sharing about concussion prevention, and during the bike swap, will be providing education around bike helmet fit. Also, YYC Food Trucks will have the food vendors Family Dogs and Family Squeezed Lemonade on site.
So, how does it work on June 17?
If you want to sell a bike, bring your bike to the East Loading Dock at the Olympic Oval between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
If you have a bike to donate, drop it off anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drop-off zones will be set up for anyone wanting to drop off a donated bike (north of the Oval and at the roundabout by the East Loading Dock).
Want to buy a bike? Bike sales open between 2:30 and 5 p.m. Come early! The bikes go fast. A team of volunteers will help you with any questions and guide you through the process.
“This is a great way to spend a Saturday. All donated bikes will be given to partners, including Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families, Two Wheel View, Kiwanis, and others,” says Laura Grant, the founder with her husband, Chris. “This is the first time the University of Calgary has partnered with this event and we are thrilled. Cycling and cycling education is our passion, every bike makes a difference.”
This event is not only about exchanging bikes, it's also a chance to exchange knowledge and experiences with fellow cyclists and enthusiasts. So, pedal your way to the Olympic Oval and explore the bike swap.

- Received their 500th bike donation since January 2023.
