Become a Libin Cardiovascular Institute Member
There are four types of memberships in the Libin Cardiovascular Institute with different expectations and benefits. Learn about them below.
Libin Clinical Member
Open to nurses, physicians, surgeons and technicians working in cardiovascular care.
Clinical members are expected to attend grand rounds and use Libin brand standards.
Why be a clinical member?

How to become a member:
All members of the Department of Cardiac Sciences are automatically considered members of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, and will remain so for the duration of their employment within the department. We would like all clinical members to complete a Libin membership profile, please contact the Libin Operations Team at libin@ucalgary.ca for more information.
Libin Research Membership
Open to individuals who conduct or participant in an investigative undertaking in the field of cardiovascular health.
Research members are expected to attend Libin events such as RUSS, CV Journal Club, External speaker series and Research Day; support Libin activities by taking part in such things as peer review, scholarship review, poster judging and committee work; participate in relevant program activities; give community talks about their research; notify Libin operations staff of grants and publications; use Libin brand standard.
Why be a research member?
- Access internal funding, including bridge, seed/catalyst and matched
- Benefit from equipment and maintenance support
- Receive mentorship
- Receive allocated space

Libin Trainee Membership
Open to undergraduates, graduates, post-doctoral fellows, residents or fellows at the University of Calgary.
Trainee members are expected to participate in at least 20 per cent of the Libin's education activities; present at the Tine Haworth Cardiovascular Research Day; attend External Speaker Series talks; and use appropriate Libin branding.
Why be a trainee member?
Opportunity to receive studentships/scholarships, travel awards and publication awards. Only trainee members are eligible for funding.

Trainee members are appointed for the duration of their studies and are not required to apply annually.
Become a Libin Community Member
Open to members of the community, global partners and professionals outside of the University of Calgary.
Clinical members are expected to provide information about opportunities that might appeal to Libin community members, or areas for research partnerships.
Why be a community member?
Receive regular updates from the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, have first access to Libin events.
How to become a community member:
Contact the Libin Operations Team to become a member. Member engagement will be reviewed every five years, at which time inactive members will receive a letter enquiring whether they want to remain a member.
