Our History

A Legacy of Generosity

The Libin Cardiovascular Institute was founded thanks to the visionary support of Mona and Alvin Libin.

On March 6, 2003, the Alvin and Mona Libin Foundation made a transformative $15 million donation to Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary—then the largest one-time gift ever received by either organization. This landmark contribution led to the formal creation of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute on January 27, 2004.

In May 2022, the Foundation reaffirmed its enduring commitment with an additional $7.5 million donation, ensuring continued excellence in cardiovascular care, research, and education.
