Life-changing complications after cancer treatment impact UCalgary researchers

Following a cancer diagnosis at age 18, Julie Deleemans, MSc, suffered a lot of pain, even in post-treatment. Now a cancer survivor and PhD candidate at the Cumming School of Medicine, Deleemans is researching how cancer treatments affect the gut microbiota, as many cancer survivors have long-term gastrointestinal issues and mental health issues, something Deleemans also experienced. She conducts and presents her research with Dr. Faye Chleilat, PhD, with whom she has formed an academic bond and a close friendship.
