Honorary degree and Order of the University of Calgary recipients announced for fall 2022 convocation
UCalgary Chancellor Jon Cornish and President and Vice-Chancellor Ed McCauley are pleased to announce the Honorary Doctor of Laws (Hon. LLD) and Order of the University of Calgary recipients for the fall 2022 convocation ceremony.
The honorary degree is the University of Calgary’s highest academic distinction and is bestowed upon individuals whose notable achievements and community service merit recognition. This distinguished recipient will address our graduating class at the convocation ceremony, sharing words of wisdom he has gained through years of excellence and leadership in his field.
The Order of the University of Calgary recipient has a record of exemplary and distinguished services to the university. The nominee can be a current or past member of the university community.

Hon. LLD recipient
Roy Bear Chief, BSW’99, MSW’04
Conferral and address – Thursday, Nov. 10, 2 p.m. ceremony
Roy Bear Chief is an influential and honoured Elder. After receiving a nursing assistant certificate, GED and social work diploma, Bear Chief went on to earn a Bachelor of Social Work (1999) and Master of Social Work (2004) from the University of Calgary. A residential school survivor, he has been an instrumental leader in the Siksika Nation, and is currently an Espoom tah (helper) with Mount Royal University’s Health, Community and Education department.

Dr. Mea Wang, PhD
Dr. Wang will be presented with the Order of the University of Calgary during the ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m.
Mea Wang ambitiously empowers our daily life with technologies. Since 2008, Wang has been an integral part of the University of Calgary’s Department of Computer Science, as a professor and her studies into the design and development of networking systems and algorithms. Her research focuses on multimedia networking, cloud computing, mixed reality and networking optimization.
