  1. Masters Graduate Scholarships

    Who can apply? Libin trainees registered in full-time MSc program 

    The purpose of this award is to recruit students who will be highly competitive for external awards on the basis of their academic performance and research program. Thus, students holding this award are expected to apply for external awards or grants for which they are eligible, including those from provincial or national agencies.

  2. Libin Cardiovascular Institute Master’s Scholarship in Women’s Cardiovascular Health

    Who can apply? Open to students registered full-time within the first two years of a thesis-based master’s program in the Cumming School of Medicine who are under the supervision of a full member of the LCIA whose research focuses on women's cardiovascular health.

  3. Tine Haworth Scholarships in Cardiovascular Research

    Who can apply? PhD students in first two years of program

    The Education Council of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute has allocated funds to support two scholarships ($12,500 each) for a period of one year. These awards are designed to enhance competitiveness for longer-term external funding.

  4. Doctorate Graduate Scholarships

    Who can apply? Libin trainees registered in full-time PhD program 

    The purpose of this award is to recruit students who will be highly competitive for external awards on the basis of their academic performance and research program.   5. Kertland Family Doctoral Scholarship in Vascular Biology

    Who can apply? Applicants must be pursuing vascular research in association with the Libin Cardiovascular Institute in the Cumming School of Medicine. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing research into the mechanistic basis of vessel contraction, angiogenesis or arterial pathophysiology.

  6. Libin Cardiovascular Institute Doctoral Scholarship in Women’s Cardiovascular Health

    Who can apply? Open to students registered full-time within the first two years of a doctoral program in the Cumming School of Medicine who are under the supervision of a full member of the LCIA whose research focuses on women's cardiovascular health.

  7. Libin Graduate Recruitment Scholarship

    Who can apply? Students entering, or registered in a full-time MSc or PhD program under the supervision of a full member of the Libin Institute. The institute aims to promote excellence in cardiovascular research by recruiting outstanding trainees to our innovative research training programs through the offer of competitive funding opportunities.

  8. Giving Day Scholarships

    Who can apply? Open to students registered full time in a graduate program supervised by a full-member of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.

    Trainees awarded a Libin Institute MSc or PhD Graduate Scholarship are not eligible to hold a Giving Day scholarship at the same time.

  9. Travel Awards

    Who can apply? Libin Cardiovascular Institute trainee (e.g., undergraduate student, graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, clinical trainee) at the time of application and travel

    The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta (LCIA) Travel Award is intended to help offset costs for LCIA trainees traveling to national and international conferences. The LCIA Travel Award provides travel support to a maximum of $1,500 per LCIA trainee.

  10. Libin Cardiovascular Institute Trainee Excellence in Research

    Who can apply? Libin trainees with first-authored papers published in peer-reviewed journals.

    Designed to recognize and reward trainees at all levels for quality cardiovascular research.

Scholarships available to postdoctoral fellows within the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.

  1. Cumming School of Medicine Postdoctoral Scholars Program (Libin Internal Application)

    Who can apply? Full time primary CSM faculty members at all levels of career development to fund one PDS at a time

    The LCIA will hold an internal competition, only bringing forward the most competitive applications to the CSM.

Scholarships available to clinical trainees within the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.

  1. Dr. L.B. Mitchell Clinical Research Prize

    Who can apply? Cardiology, cardiology sub-specialty fellows, cardiac surgery residents

    The L.B. Mitchell Clinical Research Prize was created in recognition of the significant contributions of Dr. L.B. Mitchell to cardiovascular health in Calgary. In addition to his research career in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Mitchell served as a leader and mentor to colleagues and students and a dedicated provider of care to his patients. The purpose of this annual prize is to support trainees in cardiovascular programs at the University of Calgary.

  2. The Peter F. Russell MD FRCP (C) Clinical Cardiology Fellowship Award

    Who can apply? Clinical Fellows

    Dr. Peter F. Russell was the first graduate of the Clinical Cardiology Training Program at the University of Calgary in 1983. This award was established by his colleagues and family to honour his life and the exceptional care and compassion he provided for his patients. It is awarded annually to a clinical fellow who is considered to best exemplify Dr. Russell's passion for medicine and patients.

  3. The Arthur J.E. Child Fellowship

    Who can apply? Clinical fellows

    The Arthur J.E. Child Fellowship is supported by a generous gift from the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation. It is awarded  to outstanding physicians who wish to pursue advanced training in cardiovascular medicine. The awards support local candidates who plan to undertake Fellowships at high-level international centres, and to train locally at the University of Calgary.

  4. Helios UCMG Post Fellowship Awards

    Who can apply? Residents in their final year of training (up to and including R5) are eligible to apply for this award. Applicants must successfully complete their current training program prior to commencement of advanced fellowship training.

    The Helios – UCMG Awards will provide bridging salary support for clinical fellowship trainees who successfully complete postgraduate medical training and are enrolled in further advanced clinical or scholarly training at another institution to enhance their skills.

  5. Clinical Research Development Fund

    Who can apply? Teams of cardiologists and cardiology fellows

    An annual competition that funds collaborative research projects jointly led by at least one staff cardiologist and at least one core cardiology fellow in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Calgary.
