New food services operator contract awarded
There is a wide array of food available across campus — from fresh ahi tuna poke, to homemade waffles with whipped cream.
The various retail outlets across campus that provide those options, including the Dining Hall and Bistro Alma, are managed by Food Services; the food service operator is responsible for providing catering on campus in designated spaces and provides the meal plan program for our students in residence.
The University of Calgary recently awarded the food service contract to Aramark, a company with extensive industry experience providing innovative and award-winning services in catering and food service management to various industries, including: health care, universities, stadiums and businesses around the world.
A rigorous selection process
The award of this contract was based on a rigorous and fair process. Evaluations were conducted by a committee, with representation from students, faculty and staff. There was a variety of criteria in different categories such as: food quality, sustainability, training, safety practices, innovation, future planning, technology, student experience, retail, catering and financial.
The transition from the current operator, Chartwells, to Aramark will take place during April and May. Food and Conference Services has a transition plan in place to ensure a smooth handover to the new operator. As part of this plan, current Chartwells staff will be provided opportunities for continued employment on campus.
The campus community can expect a continued high level of customer service, food quality and professionalism during the transition period. Watch for more information on the fall launch.
