6 students become Qualified Members of NAP
Second-year students Scott Ellis and Jeffrey Westman, and third-year students Callin Haglund, Christina Hodgson, Aoife McManus, and Alex Schreiner successfully completed the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) exam on November 27, 2017, and have earned the designation "Qualified Member, National Association of Parliamentarians - Business Meetings Rules and Procedures."
Students are able to take the exam as part of Law 599 - Legal Practice.
"Although many lawyers in Canada include in their practice an offer of services related to the roles of Parliamentarian, Chair or Presiding Officer, there are few indeed that have any qualification or training in this field," says Professor Emeritus Pat Knoll who teaches the course. "Apart from students who have taken Law 599 at UCalgary Law, there are no lawyers in Alberta with such training. The law school continues to be the sole law school in North America with such a course."
