About Research Update Seminar Series (RUSS) 

RUSS is your opportunity to showcase your research journey. If you have written your research proposal or discussed your objectives with your supervisor and committee, this platform allows you to present your research plan.

For example, you can start with an introduction to your project, discuss each aim, share any preliminary results related to those aims (or expected outcomes if you don’t have any results yet), and conclude with your next steps and the impact of your research. 

Why Participate in RUSS?

• Gain valuable feedback from peers and faculty.
• Practice communicating your research effectively.
• Build confidence in presenting your ideas to diverse audiences.

About the Cardiovascular Journal Club (CJC)

CJC was developed to help you practice evaluating a scientific publication. Each session, two students will choose a journal article to critique in a chalk-talk format. Put your emphasis on the paper's methods section, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the paper. CJC participants will discuss and provide feedback on your evaluation. 

Important information for trainees

Attendance at Libin seminars is a condition of funding.

Libin trainees are expected to present at a minimum of at least one Research Update Seminar Series (RUSS) and one Cardiovascular Journal Club session each year and attend at least 75 per cent of RUSS, CJC and/or External Speaker Series seminars. 

If you are unable to fulfill these requirements, kindly share the reason for your absence by emailing alina.kotylova@ucalgary.ca. Please note that all submitted explanations will be reviewed, but approval is not guaranteed.
