Teaching Days 2025: kick-start your classes this fall with confidence
Teaching Days 2025 features 20 free workshops to help educators build connections and prepare for the upcoming academic year. More than just professional development, Teaching Days is a chance to reflect, recharge, and reimagine what great teaching can look like.
Dr. Patti Dyjur, PhD, educational development consultant at the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, is looking forward to the lineup of sessions planned this year. As a member of the event’s planning committee, she says the goal is to offer workshops that are relevant, timely and that connect with topics top-of-mind for UCalgary faculty.
AI to feature as major highlight
“A major highlight this year is the focus on artificial intelligence in post-secondary education,” says Dyjur. “There is a session that will explore how AI tools can support lesson planning and course design, and another that will help instructors openly discuss AI use with their students. There will also be an interactive rubric swap and a behind the scenes tour of Nickle Galleries.”
Dr. Amber J. Porter, PhD has attended Teaching Days in the past and is preparing to attend again this year. As both a manager of technology integrated learning in the Faculty of Nursing and a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Arts, she benefits from exchanging ideas with other Teaching and Learning colleagues.
“What I value most are the practical takeaways—seeing specific examples of what others are doing in their classes, reflecting on how those ideas might work for me, and staying connected with colleagues at the Taylor Institute and across faculties.”
The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning welcomes new and emerging instructors, mid-career and experienced faculty, teaching assistants, postdoctoral scholars, and non-academics with a teaching role to register.
Teaching Days takes place in person at the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning on August 20 and 21, 2025.
