Dr. L.B. Mitchell Clinical Research Prize

The L.B. Mitchell Clinical Research Prize was created in recognition of the significant contributions of Dr. L.B. Mitchell to cardiovascular health in Calgary. In addition to his research career in clinical cardiac electrophyisiology, Dr. Mitchell served as a leader and mentor to colleagues and students and a dedicated provider of care to his patients. The purpose of this annual prize is to support trainees in cardiovascular programs at the University of Calgary.

 

The Peter F. Russell MD FRCP (C) Clinical Cardiology Fellowship Award

Dr. Peter F. Russell was the first graduate of the Clinical Cardiology Training Program at the University of Calgary in 1983. This award was established by his colleagues and family to honour his life and the exceptional care and compassion he provided for his patients. It is awarded annually to a clinical fellow who is considered to best exemplify Dr. Russell's passion for medicine and patients.

 

The Arthur J.E. Child Fellowship

clinical fellows The Arthur J.E. Child Fellowship is supported by a generous gift from the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation. It is awarded  to outstanding physicians who wish to pursue advanced training in cardiovascular medicine. The awards support local candidates who plan to undertake Fellowships at high-level international centres, and to train locally at the University of Calgary.

Clinical Research Development Fund 

Teams of cardiologists and cardiology fellows An annual competition that funds collaborative research projects jointly led by at least one staff cardiologist and at least one core cardiology fellow in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Calgary

Kertland Doctoral Scholarships

basic research trainees The Smooth Muscle Research Group (SMRG) offers trainees opportunities to do both graduate work and postdoctoral training. David S. (Kim) Kertland has been a significant supporter of the scientific community at the University of Calgary. Through his contributions, Mr. Kertland has fostered the development of vascular biology within the Faculty of Medicine. This annual scholarship reflects his commitment to the next generation of scientists involved in basic vascular biology research.  

 

Tine Haworth Scholarships in Cardiovascular Research

PhD students in first two years of program  The Education Council of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute has allocated funds to support two scholarships ($12,500 each) for a period of one year. These awards are designed to enhance competitiveness for longer-term external funding.

MSc Graduate Scholarships

Libin trainees registered in
full-time MSc program 
The purpose of this award is to recruit students who will be highly competitive for external awards on the basis of their academic performance and research program. Thus, students holding this award are expected to apply for external awards or grants for which they are eligible, including those from provincial or national agencies.

Cumming School of Medicine Postdoctoral Scholar Program (LCIA Internal Application)

Full time primary CSM faculty members at all levels of career development to fund one PDS at a time

The LCIA will hold an internal competition, only bringing forward the most competitive applications to the CSM.

Travel Awards

LCIA Trainee (e.g., graduate student, postdoctoral fellow) at the time of application and travel

The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta (LCIA) Travel Awards. These travel awards are intended to help offset costs for LCIA trainees traveling to national and international conferences.

  • Applicants must be a LCIA Trainee (e.g., graduate student, postdoctoral fellow) at the time of application and travel;
  • The applicant’s supervisor must be a full member of the Libin Institute;
  • The applicant is traveling to present a paper or poster at a national or international scientific meeting or conference;
  • It is expected that trainees will apply simultaneously for other sources of funding, including departmental, faculty and external travel awards. The LCIA Travel Award will cover outstanding travel awards after funds from external sources have been applied up to $1,500.
  • The individual has not received a LCIA Travel Award in the current fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). There is a maximum of one award per person per year.
