Alberta Cardiac Network
The Alberta Cardiac Network was formed to bring together cardiovascular clinicians, staff, researchers, and educators from Calgary and Edmonton-to collaborate on initiatives that advance provincial excellence in cardiac care, research, and education.
Some initiatives the Network has supported or developed include:
- APPROACH (Alberta Provincial Project for Outcome Assessment in Coronary Heart Disease) - APPROACH, led by Dr. M. Knudtson, Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, located in Calgary, is an ongoing data collection initiative that began in January 1995. The initiative tracks information on patients undergoing cardiac catheterization in Alberta. Patients are followed longitudinally for the determination of short and long-term clinical, economic, and quality-of-life outcomes. Over 100,000 patients are now in the database.
- TORCH - a cardiovascular research training initiative involving top researchers from Edmonton and Calgary in mentoring students.
- Surgical resident exchange - preliminary work to broaden student experiences.
- Alberta Cardiac Research Day - a provincial exchange of the latest research findings.
