The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta is not a building, it is a 'virtual institute' in that its purpose is to coordinate and integrate cardiovascular services in southern Alberta.
The Libin Institute is an entity of Alberta Health Service - Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary with more than 175 research and clinician members. We provide education and training of health care professionals, offers world-class treatment using innovative technologies and access to cardiac services through novel healthcare solutions.
On March 6, 2003, the Alvin and Mona Libin Foundation presented the largest one-time donation to the Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary.
The gift came in the form of $15 million donated by Alvin and Mona Libin through their Foundation, and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta was born, giving Calgary a world-class institute for heart health research, education, and patient care.
The Memorandum of Understanding, formally establishing the Institute, was signed by the University of Calgary, Alberta Health Services, and the Alvin and Mona Libin Foundation on January 27, 2004.
